ABOUT US

Learn more about our involvement on campus and who we are in general!

Loxley Bennett cares deeply about serving the people within his community. Last summer, his passion for social justice and medicine led him to study disparities in health care at the Columbia University Medical Center. Loxley has also taught ESL classes in Harlem with Community Impact and currently works in the Office of Student Engagement. Since freshman year, Loxley has served the community through his involvement in CCSC by organizing fun events like DJ's & BJ's, and building bridges throughout the University by creating the Alumni Affairs Representative position and the Undergraduate CUIT Advisory board. Loxley is excited to bring his experience, values, and sunny disposition to the CCSC Executive Board.

Mandeep Singh is involved in a variety of social advocacy, diversity and community engagement initiatives. On campus, he has danced for  Sabor and CU Bhangra, serving as the PR Chair for Bhangra last year. He is also founder of CU Sewa, a social justice and community service organization. He has also lived in the IRC and is currently a member of Casa Latina. Off campus, Mandeep has been heavily involved in NYC politics and coalition-building; he helped found the Richmond Hill Democratic Club in Queens and served as a legislative intern for Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand this past summer. With these diverse experiences, he has seen a wide variety of issues that students may face on campus. As VP Policy, Mandeep plans to use these experiences to enact meaningful change on campus.

Michael Li is a transfer student from Baruch College and he has worked in J.P. Morgan’s Philanthropy and Asset Management divisions during summer and school for 2.5 years. For the past 2 years, he has served on CCSC as the 2015 Treasurer then President, and as a member of the Finance Committee and JCCC. In these roles, he has helped develop the visions for multiple student group funds and has pushed for CCSC to institutionalize the release of its finances. These experiences have given him insight for what student groups need from CCSC to become more successful. Going forward, he would like to reduce CCSC’s budget by 20% ($26K) and channel that money to student groups. He would also like to create a formal process for alumni to donate to student groups and gov boards, to simply the funds application process and to increase the scale of Bacchanal without increasing student life fees or charging for tickets

Sarah Yee has served on the Campus Life Committee for 2 years, as an Appointed Representative, and currently as a CCSC 2016 Representative. She is experienced in organizing many large-scale campus events, such as Homecoming, Tree-Lighting Ceremony, and Bagelpalooza. Her main goals for next year are to celebrate the history and spirit of CC through Columbia College Days, to introduce monthly De-Stressing events to promote a healthier and happier community, and to revamp Homecoming Week to include a diverse range of student group performances and collaboration. Her other activities include Varsity Fencing, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and Chipotle Brand Manager.

Sheila Alexander is a student dedicated to the betterment of the Columbia community. In her first year at Columbia, she has served as a CCSC 2017 Representative and member of the Communications and Policy committies, and the Vice Chair of Workshops for the Photography Society. In her CCSC roles Sheila has worked on tackling WTF Columbia issues and the coalition to fix Lerner. These roles on campus have given her insight into how to effectively communicate with students, and work to meet their needs. Her main goals for the upcoming year are (1) more frequent and improved version of the CCSC semester report (2) more town halls for meaningful dialogue with the student body and (3) the institution of a polling committee to get regular data on student’s opinions
