Campus Events

 

College Days

- Celebrate the history of Columbia College with a week full of CC-centered events! 

 

Destressing Events

- INSIGHT will work with student groups and members of the Columbia community to host at least one destressing event every month

 

Bacchanal

- Get a bigger artist for Spring Bacchanal

- Create a Fall Bacchanal which is comparable to the current spring show

- Accomplish by re-evaluating CCSC's spending and finding alterantive revenue streams, without raising student life fees or charging for tickets

 

Senior-Freshman Mentorship Program

- Develop and pilot a mentoring program where seniors help freshmen adjust to Columbia, post-NSOP

 

Transfer Mentorship

- Create a post-NSOP mentorship program between continuing and incoming transfers, starting the summer before transfers arrive at CU

 

Class Gifts

- Establish class gifts tradition where alumni give a set of gifts to each year of CC students

 

Throwback Movies in Roone

- Free, weekly movie screenings of classic movies

 

Polling Committee

- Provide snacks for survey responses in Lerner on a weekly basis to ensure a student-centered agenda

 

Student Services

 

Lerner

- Oh, Lerner, you squat, hollow, glass box of ramps and mailboxes. INSIGHT wants to give you a make-over to make your lounges more loungy/conducive for studying

 

Combat Rape Culture

- The University has prioritized improving sexual assault policy and INSIGHT is determined to maintain pressure on administrators 

- Going forward, we are also dedicated to including domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking in conversations and initiatives surrounding rape culture and sexual misconduct

- INSIGHT will take a proactive approach, combating rape culture with the aim of reducing the amount of incidents, as well as fixing the process to adjudicating them

 

Public Safety

- Currently, public safety has a policy that no event is "content-neutral." This allows them to deem certain events' content as more controversial than other events, therefore requiring more security

- Costs for these additional security officers is mostly covered by the Securities fund, which has increased approximately 266% from 2006-2012

- Create systematic approach for deeming events “controversial” Cut down costs, because money that goes into the Securities fund could be going to student group allocations instead

 

Leave of Absence

- Elucidate process

- Institutionalize student input in how leaves of absence affect us

- Work with University Senate and groups like SWP to represent Columbia College's stake in this topic

 

CUIT

- Google Drive

Health Insurance

- Work with Student Health Insurance Advisory Committee to ensure student input in changing cost and benefits that result from ACA

 

Financial Aid

- Voice support for need-blind aid for international students and transfer students

 

Events

 

Reduce CCSC’s Budget by 20% 

- Free up $26,000+ every year to be allocated towards student groups via F@CU, annual funds like the JCCC, and a new fund for student groups seeking support for campus wide initiatives such as divestment or workers' rights

 

Alumni Giving

- Add governing boards and individual clubs to the list of categories that alumni can give to

 

JCCC

- Eliminate once per year rule

- Fund unrecognized student groups

 

Student Group Accounting
- Create a more user-friendly and accurate bookkeeping system where groups can check their balances and identify expenses whenever they want
- Help groups share best practices on (1) how to build and execute accurate event budgets, not just copy+paste from last year, and (2) how to effectively and efficiently apply for funding

 

Focus CCSC Events

- INSIGHT will encourage class councils to put on events that only CCSC would do such as class apparel and formals

- For study breaks, we'll encourage class councils to buy their snacks from fundraising student organizations instead of outside vendors

- This will let us cut class council budgets by 10%, and prevent council events from getting in the way of student group events

Initiatives Fund

- Funding for student groups that seek support for initiatives that would provide systematic change

 

Regularly Meeting with Different Student Groups

- Send at least one member to a different student group meeting every week

- Provide insight as to how some of their issues can be resolved

- Gain insight as to how we can help solve issues, and to maintain accessibility-- part of our student-centered agenda

 

Greek Groups

- Help fight the negative stigmas that can accompany membership in a Greek organization

- Work with Greek orgs to create their own brands on campus

- Safe dialogue around achievements and conflicts that affect Greek life are key to greater understanding and resolution

 

CCSC Resolutions

- Use CCSC resolutions to signal to administrators that we support a group's efforts

 

Town Halls

Frequent, safe and productive town halls to discuss essential/controversial matters 

 

What’s Happening, CU?

- Maintaining direct line of communication to entities like the Committee on the Core, the Coalition Against Sexual Violence, the Student Health Advisory Committee, and the Student Housing Advisory Board (just to name a few)

- Provide a platform for students to keep up with and participate in the ongoing actions of these committees
